WARBURTONS BOLTON CRICKET LEAGUE

MINUTES OF THE GENERAL COMMITTEE MEETING

HELD AT BRADSHAW C.C.

31st JANUARY 2005

The Committee stood in silence in memory of Joan Stafford. The Church Service is at Our Lady of Lourdes Church on Plodder Lane at 1.15pm on Friday, then at East Chapel at the Crematorium at 2.45pm. It would be greatly appreciated if you could inform your Club members.

Apologies: Peter Stafford.

Minutes of the A.G.M. and December Meetings: These had been circulated and were agreed to be a correct record.

Matters Arising: The Committee agreed to pay the following Secretarial Expenses; Secretary £80, Umpires’ Secretary £80, Treasurer £50.

The phrase ‘qualified umpire’ in the recent LCB Newsletter was an error. All umpires on the panel (listed in the Handbook) must be CRB checked.

Farnworth S.C. still owe £215.75.

Doubt was cast on some of the statements in the LCC update on licensing.

Clubs must include the following in their Constitution “To ensure a duty of care to all members of the Club by adopting and implementing the ECB ‘Safehands – Welfare of Young People in Cricket’ Policy and any future versions of the Policy. Mike Buckley will be writing to club Welfare Officers. It was felt the League should agree to include the statement in the Handbook at the February meeting.

There will be another opportunity for CRB submissions, at Bradshaw C.C. 7pm on Sunday 6th March. The League Welfare Officer will need to see proof of CRB clearance. Clubs have experienced difficulties booking Welfare related courses.

Clubs may send more than one person on these courses.

Election of Vice Chairman: Derek Kay was elected unanimously.

Election of Sub-Committees and Representatives: Although John Hutchinson expressed reservation about the geographical imbalance of the recommended sub-committees the Committee approved the following;

Disciplinary; D.Kay, E. Smith (Umpire), representatives from Farnworth S.C., Kearsley, Tonge and Walkden.

Ground; D. Morris, representatives from Eagley, Farnworth, Heaton, Horwich and Little Lever.

Competitions; J. Hutchinson, representatives from Astley Bridge (Ron Fallows elected Secretary), Bradshaw, Egerton, Greenmount and Westhoughton.

Clubs should let the Committee know which of their members is to be their particular representative at the next meeting.

All others as 2004, with F. Hinks and R. Sandiford on the Sponsorship Committee.

Correspondence: Smithills C.C. are looking for grounds to play matches on a Sunday for the 2004 season. £50 will be paid for the use of a ground. Teas do not need to be provided.

A national 20/20 KO is being organised with matches played mid-week. Clubs have been sent details and the contact phone number is 0871 872 2580.

Clubs have been sent details of a CASC Seminar on 21st February at the Halton Stadium, Widnes (contact 0113 283 7418).

Details of club insurances (www.pcmrisksolutions.com), and adverts from cricket equipment suppliers were passed around the meeting.

‘Telling Lives’ from the BBC had been sent to clubs.

Finance: The Treasurer reported a bank balance of 5150.

Fixtures: The Committee agreed to change the fixture from 28th August to 27th August. They were then approved. It was agreed the ‘pairing’ system should continue with the Hamer and Birtwistle Cups. The following draw was made for the first round:

Byes, Astley Bridge and Little Lever (Walkden and Kearsley 2004)

 Westhoughton v Tonge

Walkden v Horwich

Bradshaw v Kearsley

Farnworth S.C. v Farnworth

Egerton v Greenmount

Eagley v Heaton

Umpires: The new title is ‘Bolton Cricket League Umpires and Scorers Association’.

There will be a scorers’ course at Astley Bridge C.C. commencing 8th March.

It was suggested for 2005 that umpires be paid £28 expenses for a full match, with all other expenses as 2004.

Juniors: It was agreed that due to a lack of time before the Handbook goes to print, the junior officials could approve junior fixtures, already given outline approval by the junior committee.

Clubs will be permitted to wear coloured clothing for under 11 matches, subject to the clothing being brought to a League meeting and approved.

Mrs Hobbis has agreed to take responsibility for forwarding junior league tables to the Bolton Evening News.

Axford Trophy Report: Greenmount were congratulated on winning the final against Kearsley. Walkden were also congratulated on winning the Lancashire final, having received a late invitation to defend the trophy. Fred Elmore and his colleagues were congratulated on the smooth running of the competition. It was agreed Fred should book Little Lever for 2006 if a larger hall cannot be booked in the near future.

Leanne Johnson may not be able to score next year.

Club Officials: These should be sent to Peter Stafford for inclusion in the Handbook as quickly as possible, including junior team contacts, and if clubs wish, Welfare Officers.

Any Other Business: Little Lever were congratulated on becoming the first Bolton League club to be awarded ‘Clubmark’.

Members of the Committee were asked to consider how funds could be raised for the Tsunami Appeal.

League Officials and members of the Competitions Committee will meet with Little Lever players and officials to discuss their commitment to second team cricket.
