WARBURTONS BOLTON CRICKET LEAGUE

MINUTES OF THE GENERAL COMMITTEE MEETING

HELD AT BRADSHAW C.C.

21st APRIL 2005

A period of silence was held in memory of Barry Settle, of Little Lever C.C. and League Umpire.

Apologies: The Chairman, John Hutchinson, and Westhoughton C.C.

Minutes of the March Meeting: These had been circulated and were approved as a correct record.

Matters Arising: Members of the R&C Committee had met with Little Lever C.C. and although it is impossible to give guarantees were impressed with the commitment of the club and players. There was a list of 29 players available for senior cricket.

Mike O’Rourke and Paul Tebay still require CRB checks before becoming actively involved with the Bolton League.

Correspondence:  An e-mail concerning insurance, and previously sent to clubs was passed around the meeting. Representatives’ attention was brought to Standing Order 9 (Public Liability and Players’ Insurance) and clubs were given to the May meeting to provide evidence.

League Handbook – Standing Order 6 no longer applies.

Disciplinary sentences will be recorded centrally to prevent banned players from changing leagues.

Clubs were given self-declaration cards to be completed when an occasional umpire or scorer is used who has not been CRB checked.

Registration Report: The following players have been transferred; S. Booth (Heaton to Farnworth), M. Ward (Heaton to Bradshaw), J. Raynor (Farnworth SC to Farnworth), T. Callaghan (Bradshaw to Farnworth), M. Parkinson (Walkden to Farnworth SC), J. Fearick (Heaton to Walkden), D. Guest (Astley Bridge to Heaton), S. Ismail (Tonge to Little Lever), D. Partington (Egerton to Bradshaw).

Lists of players to play in senior cricket from Farnworth S.C., Greenmount, Heaton, Kearsley and Walkden, and copies of professional’s contracts from Bradshaw, Greenmount, Heaton, Kearsley and Little Lever have to be with the Registration Secretary by 9pm on 22nd April.

Clubs may sign a deputy professional up to and including the grade of their existing professional provided the Registration Secretary has a copy of the contract, even if the club intends cancelling the contract and signing a replacement professional.

Jason Swift was approved as Walkden’s professional.

It was accepted that in future the R&C Committee would decide if a professional was of a suitable standard for the Bolton League.

Welfare: Mike Buckley has spoken with all club Welfare Officers. A list of key personnel who have not yet been CRB checked was e-mailed to clubs earlier, and will be included with these minutes.

Clubs not complying from next week will be reported to the R&C Committee for the appropriate action to be taken.

Where key personnel have not submitted a form for CRB checking, a Self-Declaration form has to be completed, and held by the Club’s Welfare Officer, to be inspected if necessary by a League Welfare Officer.

Mike Buckley, Richard Dearden and Bradshaw C.C. were thanked for their efforts in assisting clubs with the CRB checks.

Umpires: The Umpires / Captains meeting had been a success, and the Law changes and new League documents explained. Clubs were fined £25 per team for not having a senior player present.

The result and points should be recorded in ink in the scorebook, which will be signed by the umpires and captains.

Results should be phoned to Peter Stafford.

Umpires will inform the captains if they have gone over time, and report transgressions to the League Secretary. Allowance will only be made for injuries.

All players should be recorded in the scorebook before it is signed, even if the match is called off.

Umpires marking forms must be sent in by clubs after every match, and it is hoped there will be a further Umpires / Captains meeting mid-season.

A card noting players’ performances must be sent to Geoff Cleworth. This is for first team cricket only.

Teams using the incorrect wicket-keeping gloves will be reported to the R&C Committee.

A student a Manchester University is available to score on a casual basis. Contact Karen Knott for more details.

Finance: The Treasurer reported a balance of £4000. This does not include sponsorship money.

Licensing: There are several issues of concern, especially the increased annual fees. It was agreed May Barlow would arrange a meeting at Little Lever C.C. and the Secretary would prepare letters to be sent to local MPs.

Juniors: Match cards were distributed at the last meeting, and the minutes sent to clubs. The next meeting is on 19th May.

M.E.N. Report: The inter-league team should be with the M.E.N. by Friday 3rd June. Venues are required for the Under18 team on 12th June and 10th July.

Fixtures: Although Astley Bridge, Little Lever and Horwich would have preferred to delay the start of the season; it was clear there would not be a unanimous vote in favour.

David Morris noted clubs had put a lot of effort into preparing their grounds.

Any Other Business: The Committee approved the logos on Tonge C.C.’s cricket shirts.

Bradshaw C.C. were congratulated on being awarded ‘Clubmark’.

Clubs were reminded matches commence at 1pm on Saturdays 23rd and 30th April.

The Bolton Evening News are seeking regular correspondents at Egerton C.C. and Greenmount C.C.

Date of Next Meeting: 23rd May.
