ANTHONY AXFORD BOLTON CRICKET LEAGUE

MINUTES OF THE GENERAL COMMITTEE MEETING

HELD AT BRADSHAW C.C.

29th OCTOBER 2007

Apologies: Tony Hayes. Kearsley were not represented.

The Committee stood in memory of former umpire Jack Holding.

Minutes of the September Meeting: These had been circulated and approved as a correct record. Anne Morris requested her and David’s minutes be posted. There were no matters arising.

League Dinner: This will be held at Horwich BRSA Club, 7.30pm for 8pm Friday 2nd November. The bar will be open until midnight. The evening will be less formal than in previous years. There will not be a speaker, but there will be a raffle and Stand Up Bingo. David Morris is still waiting for the ticket requirements from Astley Bridge, Bradshaw, Farnworth S.C. Tonge and Westhoughton. Anticipated numbers are fewer than in previous years.

Legal Update: The Secretary reported that our insurers had been informed, but so far have not responded. On behalf of the R&C Committee, Mike Hall said that at the request of Farnworth C.C. a meeting to rule on a protest from Bradshaw C.C. about Brenton Parchment’s ban which BCC do not feel has been served has been adjourned. The Farnworth C.C. solicitor is aware of this. The League Chairman suggested that because of the lack of progress an informal meeting could be held between a small number of League officials and representatives from Farnworth C.C. A proposal that the League should answer the questions on procedure posed by the Farnworth solicitor with additional reference to Standing Order 6 and Rule 5 was defeated by a proposal that our solicitor should make write making reference only to SO 6 and Rule 5.

Correspondence: The next meeting of the Bolton Cricket Development Group will be held at St James School, Farnworth on 12th November. Mike Hall had received an email from Cricket Development Officer Bobby Denning about the conduct of the League Secretary and Junior Secretary involving separate issues. Mr. Hall had had little time to peruse the document and it was suggested he meet with Messer’s Buckley and Taylor, but other representatives said volunteers at their clubs had unresolved issues with Mr. Denning and it was agreed the matter be left until the next meeting. Ray Taylor indicated he would be quite happy for his correspondence with Mr. Denning to be made public.

Finance: The Treasurer reported balances of £5080 in the bank and £7200 in the coaching fund respectively.

Sponsorship: Derek Kay said a meeting would be held in the near future.

Umpires: There will be Scorebook Entry courses of 90 minutes duration at Greenmount C.C. on 5th March and Astley Bridge C.C. on 12th March. Karen Knott asked if the R&C Committee could meet before the November League Meeting with formal proposals for the player qualification for the Axford Indoor KO.

Juniors: The Presentation is at Horwich BRSA Club 7.30pm on 8th November and the AGM at Astley Bridge C.C. at 8pm on 15th November. The proposed Amendments to Rule for the juniors have been made available for junior and senior reps.

Disciplinary Report: The Chairman read a letter from Disciplinary Chairman Tony Hayes reviewing the 2007.

JW Lees Inter-League: The Bolton League are away to the Bolton Association in the first round, then at home to either the Ribblesdale or Saddleworth Leagues in the semi. In the Colts competition 12 players will be allowed to play, but only 11 can bat, or field at one time. Umpires’ expenses have been increased to £25 and 25p per mile.

Lancs KO: Barclays Wealth is the new sponsor.

Proposed Amendments to Rule: Four more had been received by the Secretary.

A proposed return to the previous points system with batting points for 150, 180, 210 and 240.

Add to Rule 27 “One bonus point to a team dismissing their opponents in the second innings for less than 75% of their total. One bonus point for a team batting second who fail to equal or beat their opponents total, but score 75% or more of the total and have not been dismissed by the end of their innings.”

Change Rule 3 to “The League shall consist of not more than 24 clubs. Applications will only be considered after any vacancies have been advertised.”

Rule 16(a) Delete (a) from 7(a). 7(c) add “unregistered/ineligible”.

Date of Next Meeting: 26th November.

Date of AGM: 10th December.
