ANTHONY AXFORD BOLTON CRICKET LEAGUE

MINUTES OF THE GENERAL COMMITTEE MEETING

HELD AT BRADSHAW C.C.

28th JULY 2008

Apologies: Karen Knott and Eric Smith. All clubs and officials attended.

Minutes of the June Meeting: These had been circulated previously and were agreed to be a correct record of proceedings.

Matters Arising: Derek Kay said Bobby Denning was interested in resurrecting the issues made in the solicitor’s letter earlier in the year.

The Chairman said that as Kearsley and Westhoughton had not complied with the requests relating to Child Welfare, he would pursue the matter via the R&C Committee.

Administration does not appear to have improved since the last meeting, and lapses would too be passed to the R&C Committee for action. Sixteen second team results were still missing and an accurate league table cannot be compiled. Offending clubs were informed. Missing and late umpires’ report cards, and missing and late 1st team match cards had been sent to clubs previously.

Clubs were reminded they should phone Peter Stafford even when no play has taken place, and should also contact Stephen Merry and Malcolm Kinder so they are not waiting for information.

Minutes of the Special Meeting: The Secretary said Egerton had noticed an error in the minutes relating to the Greenmount v Astley Bridge match. The Chairman had spoken to the clubs concerned and resolved the situation. Their match will now be played on 31st August.

The Secretary said he had noted points made by Egerton about the calling of Special Meetings and the content of them.

Correspondence: A protest had been received from Farnworth Cricket Club about the Hamer Cup Semi Final against Tonge. An R&C meeting was arranged for 6pm Tuesday 29th July. Andy Bowker and Anne Morris were the only two members of the Sub-Committee available so Stephen Merry was co-opted.

Finance: The Treasurer reported balances of £5049 in the Savings Account, £872 in the Legal Account, £1443 in the Current Account and £6582 in the Junior Coaching Account.

Umpires: It was confirmed that the score required to win, not the first innings total should be displayed on the scoreboard.

The R&C Committee will be dealing with complaints regarding the Kearsley v Egerton 1st team match, and the Farnworth S.C. v Bradshaw 2nd team match.

The Secretary said he would notify future changes of venue to Eric Smith.

Decisions made by the Disciplinary Committee should not be discussed at league meeting.

Juniors: Kearsley were not represented at the last meeting.

There has been a problem with District matches being arranged at short notice on the same evenings that Bolton League matches are scheduled for the same age group. The Junior Committee have asked the Junior Secretary to write to the CLCL so see if this is a problem throughout the County. The Junior Section is prepared to arrange our fixtures around District matches as long as the dates are known before our fixtures are published.

Paul Garnett and Mike Buckley will discuss the provision of junior cricket balls with Rod Sandiford.

R&C Report: Ron Fallows said that due to time constraints he wished to resign from the R&C Committee, but would continue as Registrations Secretary. Derek Kay said he would take over as R&C Chairman.

Little Lever were asked to make a decision about their professional by Friday, and keep the Chairman and Registration Secretary informed.

There had been formal complaints about the Greenmount v Farnworth S.C. under 18 match and the Westhoughton v Farnworth S.C. under11 match but it was agreed both results should stand.

Ryan Hynds has been registered as Kearsley’s professional for the remainder of the season

The list of ‘starred’ players will be circulated to clubs by email before weekend.

Ground Report: Several matters have been brought to the attention of the Ground Committee and they are being looked into.

A mid-season ground inspection will be taking place.

Discipline: A Heaton player has been banned for 6 matches, with a further four suspended. Three Westhoughton players have been banned for one, two and three matches, with further conditions attached. An appeal by one of the players was dismissed. There are three reports pending, plus one relating to a professional no longer playing in the League.

Hamer and Birtwistle Cups: The Chairman congratulated the successful finalists. The Birtwistle Cup Final will be played at Kearsley.

At the Hamer Cup Final only players and officials will be allowed to use the car park. Alternative arrangements are being made for spectators.

Reports from Other Bodies: The LCB are looking into fixed dates for the Lancashire KO in 2009. These will be based around the National KO dates.

Any Other Business: Farnworth S.C. are at home to Bootle in the Lancs KO semi final on Sunday 3rd August. Walkden are at home on 10th August.

Offwat have indicated to the ECB that they will not intervene in the dispute between cricket clubs and the water authorities, however the ECB will be taking the matter further.

Date of Next Meeting: 18th August.
