ANTHONY AXFORD BOLTON CRICKET LEAGUE

MINUTES OF THE GENERAL COMMITTEE MEETING

HELD AT BRADSHAW C.C.

18th May 2009

Apologies; The President, The Treasurer, Tony Hayes and Eric Smith.

Minutes of the April Meeting; These had been circulated and were agreed by the Committee to be a correct record.

Matters Arising; All clubs have now sent Mike Buckley their Child Welfare details. These will be checked against the senior team captains, professionals, welfare officers and junior team managers in the Handbook. It was confirmed that CRB holders only had to give club CWO’s the document number and expiry date.

David Morris will obtain a trophy brochure so the League can look further into the purchase or replicas for our main trophies.

After Karen Knott had read a letter from the ECB it was agreed young wicketkeepers could wear ECB approved headgear. Umpires would not be held responsible for any injuries.

Walkden handed over a cheque for their cricket balls. Rod Sandiford expressed his disappointment that payment had taken so long.

Correspondence; Clubs had been notified the ECB have a scarifier and a spiker available for hire.

Lancs KO; Greenmount and Kearsley have byes, Bootle beat FSC, and Egerton beat Crompton, Farnworth v Ormskirk Thursday evening, Westhoughton v Nelson Friday evening, Walkden v Atherton Bank Holiday Monday afternoon.

Umpires; Mrs Knott took the Committee through the May Newsletter, covering the new wide rule, the slow bowling of overs and rain affected games. The Committee agreed that there should be consultation between the umpires and captains regarding run rate calculations before the scorers are informed. Steve Bannister pointed out the calculations should only take a couple of minutes at the most. It was agreed that further consideration be given to the adoption of Duckworth / Lewis.

If a match is reduced to less than 25 overs in the second innings a result can still be obtained if a side is bowled out or the other side score sufficient runs to win.

If a side is bowled out within their overs in the first innings then the run rate calculations will still apply for 2009.

The Secretary had previously notified clubs who had failed to send all their Umpires Report Sheets. New supplies of Sheets will be mailed to clubs.

At some clubs the standard of scoring had been poor, and clubs have been fined for not having a scorer. Clubs are asked to ensure there is sufficient food for the scorers at tea.

Juniors; There had been no requirement for a May meeting.

Messers Buckley and Hutchinson had met with Martin Axford from Farnworth C.C. and Mr Buckley read a statement that had been agreed between the League and Club.

The R&C Committee need to be told which clubs have failed to fulfil junior matches, and the Junior Committee need to consider the impact of teams missing several matches.

Disciplinary Report; On behalf of Tony Hayes the Secretary said only one player had been disciplined to date, an FSC player had received a two-match ban, which has been served.

Transfers; The following players have been transferred; M McGuinness (Bradshaw to Astley Bridge), A Coop (Walkden to Astley Bridge), J Bohannon (Farnworth to FSC), A Walton (Farnworth to Greenmount), M Gregory (Eagley to Bradshaw), D O’Donoghue (Farnworth to Bradshaw), N Hallows (Egerton to Tonge), W Liptrott (Greenmount to Tonge), A Rowan (Bradshaw to Tonge).

Professionals; Only two clubs had played without a professional or deputy, Egerton and Walkden. It was agreed the payments made to the League in lieu should be ring fenced.

Three clubs still do not have a professional; Astley Bridge, Horwich and Little Lever.

The R&C Committee had previously released a statement regarding replacements for professional unable to enter the country.

The Committee agreed one day matches count for the purpose of Rule 14(b).

Hamer and Birtwistle Cup Draws; 7pm at Bradshaw C.C. on 2nd June. Hopefully draws made outside League Meetings from July will be covered on radio station Bolton FM.
