ANTHONY AXFORD BOLTON CRICKET LEAGUE

MINUTES OF THE GENERAL COMMITTEE MEETING

HELD AT BRADSHAW C.C.

27th JUNE 2011

Apologies: E. Smith

Minutes of the May Meeting: These had been circulated previously and were approved as a correct record.

Matters Arising: Feedback had generally been positive regarding the cricket balls trialed after the first round of the Hamer Cup. Feedback from this weekend’s matches is still awaited. The Secretary asked that when a decision is made, while the overriding considerations must be the quality of the ball and value, we should also take into consideration the fact that Reader sponsors the Inter League competitions.

Correspondence: None.

Finance: Report to follow. The Committee agreed to pay £400 towards the maintenance of the boltoncricket website for 2011. The Chairman said he would discuss with Paul Rayment the possibility of introducing a programme to assist clubs with the compilation of statistics.

Umpires: The League will again pay umpires’ insurance.

The Committee agreed that if teas are not ready, then there should be a ten-minute turnaround followed by a fifteen-minute tea interval, or tea should be taken at the end of the match at the discretion of the umpires.

A list of outstanding umpires’ reports has been emailed to clubs, and fines will be levied. Clubs were reminded that the umpires do make use of the information, and comments are given a response.

R&C Report: Mrs Knott explained the arrangements made by the R&C Committee in order to accommodate a Lancs KO match for Farnworth S.C. and to get the Walkden v Kearsley tie completed before the second round.

The Farnworth scoreboard now shows the runs to win.

Clubs were fined £20 for failing to provide a first team scorer and £15 for second team matches.

Greenmount had received a letter regarding the non-fulfilment of a junior fixture.

Little Lever had been fined £150 after receiving letters for non-fulfilment of several junior fixtures. The Committee agreed the fines would be waived provided Little Lever accepted their first team would be deducted one point per match should they fail to fulfil junior fixtures at, at least three age levels in 2011.

Tonge were given until the July meeting to decide if they wanted to accept a similar sanction or pay the fines levied.

It is up to the Section Secretaries to inform Karen if clubs don’t fulfil fixtures.

There was a brief discussion about the importance of junior cricket, and the amount of junior cricket played at the present time.

Disciplinary Report: Attached.

Ground Report: If a game is started late, or called off, the umpires should let Graham Waterworth know the reason why, especially if there is a problem with the covers.

Junior Report: Little Lever were not represented at the last junior meeting as the club had an EGM.

If a team is struggling for players, it is acceptable to borrow players from their opponents and play on a friendly basis, with the side with a full compliment of players receiving the points.

The League are playing inter league matches at Under 18 and Under 15 levels. A venue is required for the U18 match on 14th August.

Second Team Inter League Match: The following team has been selected for the match against the Central Lancs League at Farnworth on 10th July;

N.DUXBURY
A.COOPER
R.TIERNEY
A.PATTERSON
D.WHITTLE
D.SENIOR
N.PALMER (WK)
D.RUSHTON
M.CRAIG
C.CRAWFORD
M.WOODS

Players should let Ian Senior or Nigel Duxbury know if they are unavailable.

Senior and Junior Presentations; The senior presentation will be held on 11th November. David Morris will be booking a suitable venue. Iain McLellan had looked at town centre venues, but these were too expensive. A suggestion that only major trophies be purchased and presented to individuals was generally well received.

Mike Buckley was asked to come up with a date for the junior presentation at the July meeting.

Proposed Amendments to Rule: The Secretary had emailed proposals relating to insurance, run rates, non-contracted deputy professional and cup rules. The first three were discussed briefly, but the Secretary said he would like to consider the arrangements for cup matches further as he had recently become aware that many leagues now insist cup matches reach a conclusion on the day they are scheduled.

The Chairman indicated that in certain ways standards are slipping, with some of our rules requiring a review. Looking to the future he recommended the formation of an Executive Committee
