ANTHONY AXFORD BOLTON CRICKET LEAGUE

MINUTES OF THE GENERAL COMMITTEE MEETING

HELD AT TONGE C.C.

30th JANUARY 2012

Apologies:  J Hutchinson, K Knott and E Smith. Kearsley C.C. were not represented.

Minute’s Silence: The Committee stood in memory of Tony Horrocks (Greenmount), Les Whyatt (Heaton), Geoff Dingsdale (Astley Bridge) and John Pickstone (Life Member, former League Treasurer and Little Lever).

Election of Vice Chairman: The Secretary had emailed clubs a proposal on behalf of the Chairman. However, it was agreed that the Vice Chairman should be a club representative. Frank Hinks and Derek Kay received nominations, but it was agreed clubs be allowed until 6th February to submit other names to the Secretary for circulation.

Minutes of the December Meeting and AGM: Both had been circulated previously and were agreed to be a correct record.

Matters Arising: The Committee agreed Chris Higginbottom from Play-Cricket should be invited to a meeting during the summer.

Stephen Merry has forwarded the following suggestion on behalf of the R&C Committee relating to power plays in reduced over matches;

“Please find below as discussed last night the R & C proposal for the Hamer / Birtwistle Cup Power Play in the event of Captains agreeing to play reduced overs due to weather;

Suggestion is that the Power Play be pro-rata as follows, subject to ratification at the February meeting;

40 – 49 Overs played – Power Play = 10 Overs (5 overs per side)

30 – 39 Overs played – Power Play = 8 Overs (4 overs per side)

20 – 29 Overs played – Power Play = 6 Overs (3 overs per side)

10 – 19 Overs played – Power Play = 4 Overs (2 overs per side)

0 – 9 Overs played – Power Play = 2 Overs (1 over per side)”

Correspondence: The Secretary had previously emailed information regarding the following; League Cricket Conference Legal Update, MCC Foundation, CASC, Safehands 15th February at Stretford C.C., SPC and 1st Aid for Overseas Players at Leyland C.C. on 14th May, ECB Guidelines for Junior Player in Open Age Cricket.

The Committee agreed that if a Hamer or Birtwistle Cup tie could not be completed at Westhoughton on 15th July, play would not resume until the Wednesday evening as Lancs Seconds are playing Derbyshire on Tuesday 17th.

Finance: In the absence of the Treasurer there was no report. Heaton and Astley Bridge wish to order 42 balls apiece. Astley Bridge wish to query the fines for non-submission of match cards.

Umpires: There is a new website www.boltonumps.co.uk which can also be accessed via the boltoncricket website.

There are 20 attending the course at Astley Bridge, including 8 from the Bolton League and 5 new recruits. Progress is being made with the video training programme.

Transfers: The Committee agreed Dave Bath could transfer back from Egerton to Tonge, but would not be permitted a further transfer before the 2013 season. The following players have transferred; A Taylor (Bradshaw to Heaton), N Partington (Little Lever to Tonge) and M Mills (Little Lever to Tonge).

Axford Indoor KO: The Chairman congratulated Egerton and Eagley, winners and runners-up respectively, and thanked the umpires for organising and running the competition. Generally it was felt the rules changes had been beneficial to the game. It was agreed the search for larger premises should continue, and that perhaps the competition could run before Christmas, in time for the County finals. There was a suggestion that umpires from outside the League could be used in future years.

Fixtures: These were approved by the Committee. The Secretary explained that although the fixtures will be reversed next season, this would not guarantee the imbalance of Sunday fixtures would be rectified as Lancs KO and other dates may change.

Juniors: The fixtures were approved although Walkden were not happy that once again they had a high number of U18 matches at home.

Clubs must supply Mike Buckley with the following information by the dates indicated; entry to Lancs KO’s – U11, U13, U15 (7th Feb), spread sheets for Child Protection Courses (14th February) and spread sheet for clubs’ Child Protection information (31st March).

Handbook: Farnworth and Heaton need to provide the League Secretary or Mike Buckley with 1st and 2nd team averages by 6th February, or the stats will not be included.

The following should be emailed to Mike Buckley before 28th February; club directories, junior managers, club report (500 words max), obituaries, photographs.
