Report : After Heaton won the toss and deciding to field first, the game was always going to be low scoring as the pitch looked to favour the bowlers after heavy rain overnight. Westhoughton lost wickets at regular intervals as John Fearick and Hirwani bowled very accurately. Ian Pilkington, in a rich vain of form at the moment batted superbly and when he started to run out of partners stepped up a gear to help Westhoughton to what appeared a very modest total. Heaton's reply was even worse and at 10 for 4, they were in dire straits. John Fearick and Ian Bradshaw stabilised things, but there was another collapse and at 60 for 8 the game had gone for the visitors. Enter Simon Booth and Hirwani, who began by pushing it around a bit and batted very sensibly. A few lusty blows from both players saw Heaton home after a tense 49 run eith wicket partnership. Phew! |
