Report : After winning the toss and deciding to bat first, the Bolton League batted well on a demanding wicket that required great concentration due to the uneven bounce. Captain Dave Morris, scored and excellent 50 and shared two very important partnerships with Gary Garner and then Rick Northrop. Paul Rayment and Chris Barrow again piled on the runs towards the end of the innings to help the Bolton League to a competitive total. Ian Taylor produced an excellent spell of bowling to make it hard for the Northern League batsman, but a good stand between Aspinwall and Riley got them over the hundred mark and seemingly in control of the situation. Enter Tim Barrow, who bowled with great control to claim 4 victoms with four drop catches off his spell of ten overs. Kevin Haworth produced some superb drives down the ground in his innings of 34. Dale Jones come back into the attack and sent the last dangerman back to the pavillion with a superb 4 over burst. The Northern Leagues tale could not wag on this occasion, but with the weather closing in and the rain imminant, the Bolton League snatched victory with a good catch from Garner in the gathering gloom. A fantastic all-round performance by a team that does not look like relinquishing the Manchester Evening News Inter-League Trophy for quite some time. Well Done Lads !! |
