Heaton 86-9
Shrewsbury 87-7
Heaton performed very well and were unlucky on the day to lose the semi final on the last ball of the 20 overs game.
Heaton lost their 2 openers early and were 8 for 2. Good innings from Neil Thompson (28) and Callum Parkinson (20) rallied Heaton against some very fast, accurate bowling. Sandeep Varsani scored a 6 off the last ball of the innings to allow Heaton to set Shrewsbury a reasonable score to chase.
Shrewsbury started steadily and with some strong middle order hitting were always up with the target of just over 4 runs an over. However, good bowling, late in the innings, from Jake Corrigan (0 for 4 off 3 overs) left Shrewsbury needing 10 runs off the last 2 overs. Oliver Sutcliffe also bowled well (2 for 6 in 3 overs), and started his last over with Shrewsbury needing 3 to win. Finally the scores were level with one ball to be bowled. The umpire gave a disputed wide that shocked the Heaton boys and saw Shrewsbury very close winners.
A good day was had by all and a tremendous learning experience for all the boys, coaches and parents!!!
