Bolton Cricket League - Junior Section

 Minutes of the August Meeting

1.       Apologies for absence:  All clubs were represented.  Apologies were received from the Secretary.

2.       Matters Arising:  Arrangements for the Walkden Festival were finalized.

3.       Junior Format:  David Clitheroe had been asked to form a sub-committee to develop options for the format of junior cricket next season.  David issued to all clubs a paper identifying options and he outlined each one of these.  It was agreed that each club would consider the proposals and provide comments before the next meeting directly to David Clitheroe.  The sub-committee would meet once again to formulate the comments and present the document at the next meeting.  The Chairman thanked the sub-committee for their efforts in taking this matter forward.

4.       Finance:  The Treasurer reported that there was no change from the previous month and the coaching fund was still in place.

5.       Coaching:  In the absence of Richard Deardon no report was available.  It was agreed that the Chairman would contact Richard to enable a programme of coaching for the winter months to be presented at the next meeting.  John Hutchinson asked that the leagues programme doesn't duplicate the programme developed for the District Squads.  The committee supported the view that under 11s should be targeted for coaching.

6.       Age Level Reports:

U/11 - Ian Cavill reported that he had prepared a league table which shows Horwich top with 20 points.  The top eight teams will go forward to the Walkden Festival and the draw took place.

          Section A               Section B

          Egerton                  Astley Bridge

          Little Level              Horwich

          Kearsley                 Westhoughton or Greenmount

          Heaton                   Bradshaw

U/13 - In the absence of Geoff Diggle no report was presented.

U/15 - John Hutchinson read out the league table and confirmed that the under 15s cup final would be between Astley Bridge and FSC commencing at 4.00 pm on Monday 23rd August.  Greenmount were asked to write to the League outlining their reasons for not turning up for a home game against FSC

U/18 - Darren Wilson reported that the Under 18s league championship had been shared by Horwich and Bradshaw following agreement by both clubs.  The Bradhsaw representative asked if the play off match could be replayed but considering the previous decision this was not accepted. The Jack Tatlock final is organised to take place on 4th September at either Bradshaw or Farnworth, with the winners playing Horwich.  It was agreed that the match card submitted by FSC claiming the game against Heaton be accepted.

Match Cards -  The Chairman expressed his disappointment that due to clubs not carrying out their responsibilities, league tables cannot be compiled.  The Section Administrators had a very difficult job, time consuming and it was totally unacceptable.

7.       Interleague Reports

U/11s - Ian Cavil expressed his concerns that no under 11s fixtures had been recently organised which was due to their leagues not being able to organise.

U/13s - The under 13s side had reached the final of the Peak Sports Competition which was to be held in Glossop against the Bolton Association.

U/18s - There was disappointment that the leagues side had not progressed to the final of the MEN competition due to an inferior run rate.

All Managers involved were thanked for their efforts during the season.

8.       Child Protection

Mike Buckley had written to league officials and Managers on behalf of John Hutchinson asking them to complete a statement.  It was agreed that the CPB forms only had to be seen by John Hutchinson.

9.       Junior Presentation Evening - The following sub-committee was formed to organise the presentation evening:  Roy Stafford, Bill Stevenson, Jack Ashton, J Cowburn and a representative from Horwich.

10.     Any Other Business

          a)       Clubs were reminded to prepare their Club's averages to enable the prize claims to be completed.

          b)       Horwich reported that they had lost the Baldwin Cup and suggested that the Arnold Sharples Trophy be used for this purpose.

          c)       It was of concern to the Committee that the arrangements for the presentation of trophies had not been acceptable and the organisation had failed to ensure these events are staged correctly.  The Chairman took responsibility for this and would ensure that the situation improved.
